The best app for inventory management is going to give you a combination of flexibility and automation. Certainly having the computer do the heavy calculating, positioning, and operations is a big benefit. But, not always can we rely on the computer, and very often situations call for human assistance. In these cases, you really need something to be versatile in the warehouse. Below are our tops choices for the best inventory management app with a profile for our very own Distribution Hub inventory management app.

  • Quickbooks:
    • Pros: Relatively inexpensive at $20/month. Handles your accounting all in one. Enables easy export of files. Connected with lots of other apps.
    • Cons: Not truly capable of multi-location and bin tracking out of the box. No mobile app out of the box. The cost can add up when adding in a mobile app.
    • Receiving: Requires the ‘Plus’ plan to manage the inventory. Add vendor profiles, allocate the purchase orders, but manually approve and send out. No app to check-in inventory – must use the enterprise version.
    • Warehousing & Inventory: Not set up to handle multiple warehouses. Picking bins and bays are not allowed in the simple ‘Plus’ version – requires custom fields. Detailed inventory, variations and shipping options. Packaging and labels all done via computer. Hard to manage product relationships without enterprise.
    • Shipping & Delivery: Excellent shipping integrations. Quote and invoice on the fly for products. No fleet routing capability.
    • Mobile App: No inventory management app until the enterprise version.
  • Fishbowl:
    • Pros: Specifically built for Quickbooks connectivity. Expansive inventory management features. Handle manufacturing. Strong admin interface capability. Must add on various packages to get full functionality.
    • Cons: No routing and delivery capability. Offers many things that as a smaller business you may not require. Limited app features.
    • Receiving: Vendor module for creating purchase orders. Lead timing system. Check-in product via mobile app – manually enter PO.
    • Warehousing & Inventory: Multi-warehouse capable. Environment determined by branch location of the employee. Inventory is detailed – limited to warehouse layout and storage. Additional fields and documents are possible. B2B eCommerce site is available as an addition. Pick, pack and scan module as extra.
    • Shipping & Delivery: Multiple shipping integrations. No loading zone or carrier shipping distinction. Delivery & routing for fleets is not an option.
    • Mobile App: Simplified. Purchased separately. Meant for simplified warehouse operations.
  • Delivrd:
    • Pros: Free for 1 user, 1 location, 10 products. Powerful inventory management system. Mobile app. Upgrades available.
    • Cons: Limited warehouse management. Free account super limited. The app is not robust.
    • Receiving: The Delivrd platform is limited but will give you basic ability to reorder product and check-in product at the warehouse. This will mostly be manual.
    • Warehousing & Inventory: Store product across multiple warehouses and transfer inventory. No warehouse layout or barcoded storage capability. High-level pick, pack, ship module. Prints shipping labels, limited on carriers.
    • Shipping & Delivery: Items are picked one by one, packed and weighed the same way before they can be delivered. Very simple process, and will likely be entirely manual. No mobile app to help here.
    • Mobile App: No mobile app identified. Interface is mobile compatible.
  • Odoo:
    • Pros: Open-source for in-house customization. Apps available to plug-in (at a cost). Back-end system for management of your instance.
    • Cons: Very technical platform and requires programming knowledge. The app is very limited in functionality. Costs will add up with the paid version.
    • Receiving: Robust receiving program. Compare RFQ across vendors. Simple lead timing. Generate purchase orders automatically. The mobile app will require a custom built setup.
    • Warehousing & Inventory: Manage multiple warehouses. You can sort sophisticated inventory. Simplified kitting and packaging module. Relies on the manual movement of assets on the admin.
    • Shipping & Delivery: Integrated shipping module for orders. Must include this functionality within your custom app. No current functionality for routing and proof of delivery.
    • Mobile App: If you have strong internal IT, Odoo provides their Studio which enables non-coders to create mobile accessible applications directly. This can be rather tricky, but they claim to support highly customizable apps based on your Odoo package.
  • Tradegecko:
    • Pros: Detailed functionality and smooth admin. Multi-warehouse and cross-docking. Mobile app for pick, pack, ship. Multiple integrations out of the box.
    • Cons: Costs will add up quickly when expanding to many user-profiles and volume levels.
    • Receiving: Receive full and partial purchase orders. Automatically generate and send out purchase orders to vendors. See the status of incoming orders and assign products to purchase via barcode.
    • Warehousing & Inventory: View products by locations, adjust stocktakes and make new restocking requests across warehouses. Appears to be limited bin, bay or aisle storage unless running the advanced version. Integrates all sales channels.
    • Shipping & Delivery: Fully integrated shipping options with 3pl support and Shipstation for automation. Print packing slips and shipping documents. No support for fleet routing, delivery, and proof of delivery.
    • Mobile App: They offer a mobile sales app which can scan orders into a purchase. But, there is no inventory management app, this is all done through the admin panel.
  • Cin7:
    • Pros: Brings together EDI, 3PL, and manufacturing. Robust interface functionality. Mobile application with visual cues. Strong omnichannel retail functionality.
    • Cons: Limited in the functionality they will allow. Certain circumstances are just not allowed. Get’s expensive for small businesses. Meant for larger medium-sized operations as there is extensive functionality smaller businesses will not use.
    • Receiving: They do offer purchase order creation, but the options to calculate lead timing and automation of reordering is limited. There is no true mobile app, only the mobile interface of their admin. This is additional hardware available for scan gun.
    • Warehousing & Inventory: Manually managed on the admin interface. Inventory tracking details are nice. Extensive inventory field customization, kitting, and product bundles. Enables connection with accounting systems and provides good high-level overviews.
    • Shipping & Delivery: Integrated with shipping providers. Tracks status of shipments, back-stock, and available incoming product. The pick and pack module is easy to see the order, weight and shipping details.
    • Mobile App: There is no true android or iOS application. The mobile version of their admin panel is the only available option for inventory picking and packing.
  • Finale Inventory:
    • Pros: Simplified inventory management system without lots of the bloatedness of larger systems. There is an easy to use purchase module. Good inventory dashboard. Made for online ordering channels primarily.
    • Cons: Not suited for any sort of complex wholesale operation. More manual of a process to adjust and sort inventory.
    • Receiving: Full suite dedicated to purchasing and ordering. Create manual POs or automate based on your inventory replenishment levels. Use the mobile barcode scanner (purchased separately). Limited in the lead timing reporting.
